From Page to Stage
A 5-Day Scriptwriting Workshop in Adapting Novels for Theatre
Novels and theatre tell stories differently. While novels can move across time, enter characters’ minds, and explore worlds through narration, theatre brings the human experience to life through action, dialogue, and the relationship between actors and audiences.
This 5-day workshop invites writers and theatre makers to explore the art of adaptation — discovering the core of a story, shaping it into a dramatic journey, and finding the unique possibilities that emerge when a story moves from the page to the stage.

What we’ll do:
- Compare narrative tools: novel vs. theatre
- Map plots, streamline arcs, merge characters
- Practice dramatic exposition and worldbuilding for theatre
- Write, read, and edit scenes for impact
- Outcome: A clear adaptation blueprint
Participation requirement:
- Choose a novel you would like to adapt
- Read the novel before the workshop
- Complete a chapter-by-chapter summary template provided in advance
- Bring the completed template on the first day of the workshop
Full attendance throughout the 5 days is required.
